Following its bulletins of 5 May 2021 updating the New Industrial Strategy proposed in 2020, the European Commission has further indicated that it’s going to rely quite closely on business to ship on the major challenges confronted by our economies and societies in Europe. This is especially the case in relation to sustainability, digital transformation, and world competitiveness, in addition to the need to overcome the disaster provoked by the Covid-19 pandemic. The EU Recovery and Resilience Plan launched in Spring 2021 is largely constructing on the capability of European trade to design and produce the building blocks of the twin green and digital transition. At the same time, the EU is shaping a dense regulatory framework that does not at all times help the freedom and suppleness needed for companies to grow and compete globally.
The European technology industries, and specifically our pumps, compressors, faucets and valves sectors, have for an extended time thought of the enhancement of their international competitiveness throughout the challenges of societal and environmental challenges, notably by contributing to the preparation of vitality efficiency and ecolabel regulations. In parallel, digitalisation has supplied elevated alternatives and introduced new challenges, including debates on the appropriate regulatory level (sharing of business data, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, etc).
These developments, amidst ever extra fierce worldwide competition, require that public authorities and industry within the EU work increasingly extra closely to design and deploy methods that reinforce our competitiveness and our contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This will be the topic of the preliminary debate kicking off our Joint EU Policy Conference, which can bring together key coverage makers from the three EU coverage establishments in command of the Industrial Strategy and three Executives representing and illustrating the achievements loved, and challenges nonetheless confronted, by these three key sectors of business.
Specific Technical and Policy Issues

As the regulatory landscape across Europe, and certainly the entire world, becomes ever extra advanced, the burden on business only increases. It subsequently falls to sector specific trade organisations, corresponding to Europump, CEIR and Pneurop, to establish and advise on those technical and coverage points most relevant to their respective sectors. In our particular arena, that relates, of course, to the manufacture, distribution and use of pumps and all pump related equipment – an enormous and essential subset of business, given the width and breadth of pump functions.
Against this backdrop, one of many major considerations when figuring out the core themes for the joint convention was to hold up a direct reference to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). Within this focus, the three associations intend to highlight how, along with the importance for firms to address technical elements impacting their day by day business operations, they contemplate the positive role of trade in addressing societal challenges. Indeed, all of the periods could have a technical theme matching the most applicable UN SDG, and with illustration from the European Commission along with technical experts from trade and/or research institutes, they may every be reflective of the present legislative terrain, because it relates to pumps and pumping methods in the following key areas:
Circular Economy & Eco-design (Relevant UN Sustainable Development Goal no. 12: Responsible Consumption and Production)

Industry’s Digital Transformation and Innovation (Relevant UN Sustainable Development Goal no. 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure)

The restriction of use of supplies and substances of concern (Relevant UN Sustainable Development Goal no. 6: Clean Water and Sanitation)

The regulatory and legislative landscape throughout Europe is becoming increasingly complex, and industry, in all its guises, must be conscious and ready for what’s coming. By partaking with those commerce organisations that characterize your greatest interests, you can keep abreast of all the compliance developments as they have an effect on your small business and the areas during which you operate.
